A Very Warm Welcome to Nursery
For some children Nursery is often their first opportunity to venture alone into the wider world outside the family home. Therefore these first interactions and experiences must be of the highest quality as they can form lasting foundations on which the children use to build upon later in life.
We are very fortunate to have two Nursery rooms in Pelton Community School. The Butterfly room for children aged 3 and 4 years old. And most recently the opening of the Caterpillar room for children aged 2 to 3 years.

Butterfly room
In the Butterfly room Mrs Henry is our class teacher and works with Mrs Lee and Mrs Hawkes.
We enjoy playing alongside the children, giving them the opportunity to become so deeply absorbed in their play and as highly skilled and experienced practitioners we know exactly where to interject and enhance their play further to ensure we reach high levelled deeply engrossed and satisfying play where the children can’t help but make progress. We work extremely hard to create an independent, rich and exciting environment where children can choose where to play, choice most definitely leads to self satisfaction. We use children’s own interests to help with our environment too so the more information you can tell us about your child the quicker we can enhance their new room and personalise their learning. We love to choose a weekly book and explore it to its maximum potential, sometimes acting scenes out first and then when reading the book the children are always excited to make the connection.
“Staff are adept at using topics which captivate children and motivate them to learn… Children were completely engrossed, showing high levels of perseverance”. (Ofsted 2015).
“Children quickly become confident and enquiring learners because they feel safe. They understand the daily routines and the expectations of adults as they listen carefully and respond well” (Ofsted 2015).

We have been extremely fortunate in Pelton to purchase brand new purpose built furniture for our 2 year old children in our very own new room with our own outside garden. Not only that but we also have daily access to a soft play room where we work on our gross motor movements, a large shared nursery garden and Schools’ own woodland area where we participate in forest schools. The environment has already proved to be such a huge success and we are so grateful for our new set up. We worked hard to create a very relaxing peaceful home from home environment yet ensuring huge learning potential was available. With staffing ratios at 1:4 our interactions with the children and quality time spent with the children are hugely beneficial.
The caterpillars enjoy a range of exciting and carefully planned weekly cookery activities, messy play, music and movement and forest school activities as well as daily soft play sessions, toddles, outdoor activities, art and craft, singing and rhyme time snack time sessions. We are experienced, dedicated and caring staff who are able to maximise the learning potential of our very young children; We work closely with the children’s interests and are quick to respond and equip the environment accordingly to ensure each child is catered for and learning is personalised. We support early speech and interactions with peers in a very positive and rewarding way. The fun and enjoyment had by all can be seen in our photographs – please take a look.
Parents are offered the following nursery sessions;
5 morning sessions 8.30am until 11.30am
5 afternoon sessions 12 noon until 3pm
Learning Journals
In both Nurseries we keep extensive learning journals packed full of your child’s journey throughout our foundation stage, from the moment they first walk into our Nursery to the day we say goodbye. We invite parents to contribute to these journals with comments photographs where possible from home. The idea is to create a whole story of your child’s early years. Parents will be invited to share these journals during stay and play sessions.
“High quality records of learning show what children have achieved and the progress they make. Parents are pleased to play a part in this journey from the outset and feel part of the learning process”. (Ofsted 2015)
