Dogs Trust- 31st January 2018
Remembrance Day 2017
Every year we explore with the children why ‘Remembrance Day’ is such an important and key date in the British Calendar. This year it really feels as if the children have taken it upon themselves to really get to know why we mark this day? who we remember and why? We have had some absolutely amazing family homework brought into school focusing upon Remembrance Day, we have had some wonderful writing in Year 2 all about Remembrance Day and some breath taking Poppy crafts made. We were even lucky enough to have a ‘Meet and Greet’ session with two army veterans (one being out very own caretaker Mrs Mitchell) and a currently serving service man. All three were happy to answer questions from the children and give us all a little eye opener what its like to be in the forces, especially in times of war.
Centre For Life 18th October 2017
We ended our first half term with a visit to the ‘Centre For Life’ in Newcastle. It was a wonderful opportunity for all the Year 1 and Year 2 children from Pelton and Beamish to consolidate their learning about space and the moon landing. The children took part in curriculum based workshops, visited ‘The Dino-Jaws’ exhibition, had hands on experience in the activity stations and a definite high light of the day was exploring space in the planetarium.
Soccer Tots 10th October 2017
All Year 1 children were invited to the Winter Soccer Tots Festival at Maiden Castle in Durham. The children had a great morning learning ball skills and how to demonstrate good sportsmanship. We even had seven Year 6 children from our school Sports Leader Squad come along with us. They were a great help and fabulous representatives for out school.
Macmillan Coffee Morning 28th September 2017
Once again the lovely Staff from Pelton Library invited every class over to take part in their Macmillan coffee morning. The librarians read the children stories whilst they had juice and biscuits and the staff took part in raffles and tombolas, with all donations going to a great charity. Thanks for having us.
The Punctuation Show- 14th September 2017
The fantastic Punctuation Show came into school and entertained us with a great show all about fun and quirky ways how to remember to use correct punctuation in our writing. Our friends from Beamish joined us for the morning, it was lovely to see a mixture of Blue and Red jumpers. The children were itching to get back to the classrooms and apply what they had learnt.
