Why do we remember the Ancient Greeks?
This half term, we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks.
This is a knowledge organizer to help us with important dates. We use this as a reference when finding things out and using topic words.
The Creakers By Tom Fletcher
In Literacy this half term we are reading The Creakers by Tom Fletcher. The children are gripped bu the imaginative storyline and exciting plot twists. They are really enjoying listening to the story, making predictions and discussing events as they happen.
We have looked into the Creakers’ love of waste and why they think that humans ‘waste’ it. In groups we researched the way that rubbish is disposed of and the effect it has on our planet. We created a persuasive letter to the grown ups to convince them to dispose of their waste responsibly.
What were the Ancient Romans doing in Durham?
This half term we studies the Romans and their invasion of Britain. We looked at lots of aspects of their rule including the spread of the empire, the army, the Britons that stood up to them and the impact the Romans had on Britain.
Our classroom was invaded by Year 6! It really helped us to understand how the people of Britain felt when the Romans arrived and drove them out of their homes and forced them to follow their rule.
We visited Arbeia, A Roman Fort in South Shields in November to see ruins of Roman buildings and lots of artefacts from that time.
School Sports Partnership Gymnastics Festival
We attended a gymnastics festival at Durham City Gym. We experienced lots of different gymnastics events and saw an exciting display from a gymnast who competes professionally. We were very impressed!
