2019 – 2020
Why should the rainforests be important to us all?
For our first half term, we were learning all about rainforests. We absolutely loved this topic, particularly finding out about the wide variety of animals and plants that can be found in the different layers of the rainforest. Here are some pictures of our fantastic work.
We have been reading the Explorer by Katherine Rundell in our Literacy lessons and think the book is just BRILLIANT! The story is about 4 children – Fred, Con, Lila and Max – who end up stranded in the Amazon rainforest. At first, the children are desperate to make it home, but then they fall in love with the magic of the jungle and have a whale of a time exploring. We have done some fabulous writing based on events in the story and used the book for our Guided Reading sessions. Have a read of our super work!
We absolutely loved Arts Week this year. We focused on Illustration and learned about different creative careers based in Illustration. We were lucky enough to have 3 real-life artists come to work with us – Lauren Young (a local illustrator), Fiona Carvell (a graphic designer and artist) and Monique Scott (a graphic designer and children’s book illustrator). Take a look at some of our fantastic final pieces, illustrating a scene from our own adventure stories that we wrote in Literacy.
What is so special about the USA?
So far in our topic, we have been learning about where in the world the USA is located and its neighbouring countries and oceans. We have learned that there are 50 US states, which are a bit like mini countries because the USA is so big. There are also numerous climate zones in the USA: Mediterranean, Desert and Temperate. It is such an interesting country and we can’t wait to learn more!
We are basing our artwork this half term on our USA topic. We have been learning about different styles of sculpture and are planning our own mini sculptures from clay. We will post some photos once our masterpieces are complete!
In our Computing lessons, we have been thinking about what it means to be a good digital citizen. We worked in pairs to come up with a ‘Class Pledge’ and voted on our favourite. Here are some examples of what we came up with:
